Ali complained that her sister spent all of their mother’s money after their mother developed dementia and her sister was made a signatory on her account. As a result, there was no money left to pay for their mother’s eventual funeral.

Our investigation

Ali’s mother had no will, and nobody had been appointed as her estate’s administrator. Ali didn’t therefore have the power to bring a complaint on behalf of her mother’s estate because she wasn’t legally authorised to represent it.

Outcome

We told Ali we could consider her complaint if she became administrator of the estate.
