Banking Ombudsman speaks with MPs’ support staff in Christchurch and Dunedin

Both meetings were very lively, with Liz Brown responding to questions about banking services in general, as well as about topical issues such as early repayment charges on home loans and investments in products recommended by banks’ financial advisers.

Participation in the Christchurch meeting was boosted by a number of Work and Income staff.

Two thirds of electorate staff in the Otago region were able to attend the Dunedin meeting. Participants found the meeting particularly useful and timely, especially as the issue of bank investment advice suddenly became very topical throughout the Otago and Southland regions in the weeks after the meeting. Liz Brown’s PowerPoint presentation was circulated to all regional electorate members who were unable to attend.
