Scheme participants
The Banking Ombudsman Scheme was set up in 1992 to help people sort out their unresolved problems with banks, bank subsidiaries, and related organisations.
In September 2010 the scheme expanded to include some deposit takers that:
- are regulated by the Reserve Bank
- have a minimum credit rating of BB
- can demonstrate high quality internal dispute resolution services.
Please note that the Banking Ombudsman can only consider complaints about scheme participants.
If you have a complaint about a financial service provider that does not participate in our scheme, please refer to the Companies Office Financial Service Providers Register.
If your complaint does not involve a financial service provider, please refer to Complaint Line.
"Scheme participants must comply with awards of compensation made by the Banking Ombudsman."
